In-Depth Platform Analysis & Coverage
EON TV functions as the flagship hybrid pay-TV and over-the-top streaming platform operated by Nova Greece, a subsidiary of United Group. Engineered to serve both standalone internet streaming cord-cutters and fixed-line telecommunications households, the platform delivers linear network carriage of up to 117 channels (with over 90 feeds in high definition) alongside an on-demand catalog surpassing 6,000 film and series assets. The athletic broadcast portfolio is anchored by proprietary Novasports channels—including Novasports Prime, Novasports 1 through 6, and Novasports News—delivering exclusive live digital telecasts of the English Premier League, Spanish LaLiga EA Sports, German Bundesliga, EuroLeague basketball, and selected Greek Super League club home fixtures. Crucially, Nova's reciprocal cross-carriage pact adds the entire Cosmote Sport channel grid (Cosmote Sport 1 through 9 and 4K), uniting UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Italian Serie A, Formula 1, and NBA telecasts into one unified program guide.
From a technical perspective, digital streams transmit in adaptive 1080p Full HD video at 50fps, with marquee athletic fixtures simulcast in native 4K Ultra HD on the EON Smart Box and supported smart TV client applications. The software platform incorporates an interactive electronic program guide, live pause, and an automated 7-day backward catch-up replay engine across linear channels, although persistent personal Cloud DVR storage is omitted from the application architecture. Hardware concurrency allows up to three simultaneous active streams across registered devices for standard entertainment programming; however, live sports carriage across Novasports and Cosmote Sport enforces a strict restriction limiting playback to one active screen at any given moment. Digital telecasts enforce strict national IP geo-blocking, locking digital telecasts to Greece while permitting verified temporary European Union cross-border roaming under EU Portability regulations.
