Willow TV

Willow TV spent the last decade consolidating cricket broadcasting rights in North America. They did it so effectively that they now hold a near-total monopoly. For the diaspora and growing local fanbase, this platform is a lifeline. You get the Indian Premier League, the Pakistan Super League, The Hundred, the Caribbean Premier League, and bilateral international series from the BCCI, PCB, ECB, and others.

The value proposition is straightforward. For ten bucks a month, you get live access to almost every major cricket event on the calendar. The addition of Willow Extra is a genuine bonus, allowing you to watch two matches simultaneously when schedules overlap. The on-demand archive is also robust, filling up with full match replays and condensed highlights within hours of the final ball.

However, the technical execution betrays its legacy cable roots. The video player is functional but basic. There are no advanced interactive stats, no multi-angle tactical feeds, and no fancy production overlays. Navigating the on-demand library feels like digging through a digital filing cabinet, with poor filtering and inconsistent metadata.

Furthermore, the geo-fencing is absolute. If you are a fan traveling outside the US or Canada, the app will instantly throw up a rights restriction wall. There are no workarounds. Customer support is equally basic, relying on automated email responses that rarely help when a legitimate geo-blocking error occurs. It is a highly specialized, region-locked product. You are paying for the broadcast rights, not a premium software experience, and for the target audience, that is a perfectly acceptable trade-off.
