Expert Review & Verdict
Stream2Watch Sports Editorial Desk • Audited October 2026
The Verdict
Our Verdict: Sýn+ (formerly Stöð 2+) serves as Iceland's dominant pay-television and direct-to-consumer sports streaming network, housing exclusive domestic telecasts of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, Besta deild karla, and national handball championships. Transmitting in high-motion 1080p 50fps alongside an automated 7-day backward electronic program guide catch-up buffer, the platform pairs Stöð 2 linear channels with extensive on-demand archives. However, premier sports require steep monthly expenditures up to 19,990 ISK per month, client playback caps active sports concurrency at two devices, and transmissions enforce strict Icelandic territorial IP address geo-blocking.

In-Depth Platform Analysis & Coverage
Sýn+ operates as the primary digital over-the-top streaming platform and virtual multichannel distributor of Icelandic telecommunications conglomerate Sýn hf., consolidating legacy Stöð 2 broadcasting networks with broadband delivery pipelines. Transmitting live linear channels and on-demand assets via adaptive bitrate HLS unicast streams across Apple TV, Android TV, Google TV, Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, mobile devices, and desktop web browsers, the service delivers the complete national Stöð 2 television bouquet. Its athletic broadcasting portfolio commands exclusive domestic live rights to premier European club football—including the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Conference League—alongside live coverage of the domestic Besta deild karla, Olís deild karla handball, NBA basketball, Formula 1, and ATP/WTA tennis tournaments.
Video transmission outputs up to 1080p high definition operating at 50 frames per second with stereo 2.0 and select Dolby Digital audio tracks across live sports simulcasts. Broadcast mechanics incorporate an automated 7-day backward electronic program guide catch-up archive (Sjónvarp á flakki), in-player live restart controls, and network time-shifting across major linear feeds including Stöð 2 Sport, Stöð 2 Sport 2, Stöð 2 Sport 3, and Stöð 2 Sport 4. Account concurrency authorizes up to five registered user devices with a playback limit of two simultaneous screens during live athletic broadcasts (expanding to three screens for general on-demand entertainment). App transmission is strictly geo-fenced to the territory of Iceland via IP address verification, with cross-border streaming enabled across European Economic Area member states for verified domestic subscribers under statutory EEA digital portability regulations.
