Expert Review & Verdict

The Verdict
Our Verdict: MAX Sport Plus serves as the cornerstone premium sports broadcasting network in Bulgaria, operating four dedicated linear feeds—MAX Sport 1 through MAX Sport 4—under A1 Bulgaria alongside broad carriage across Vivacom EON and Yettel. The network commands top-tier European sports rights, delivering live coverage of the UEFA Champions League (Tuesday fixtures), Serie A, LaLiga, EuroLeague basketball, MotoGP, and ATP Tour tennis in 1080p 50fps. However, promotional pricing of BGN 7.99/mo requires a binding 24-month telecom contract, standalone OTT direct sign-ups incur higher monthly rates, and digital app transmission is strictly locked to Bulgaria under EU portability rules.

In-Depth Platform Analysis & Coverage
MAX Sport Plus functions as the flagship athletic television network and direct-to-consumer digital streaming service of A1 Bulgaria, transmitting live linear channels and on-demand assets via adaptive bitrate HLS unicast streams and managed IPTV multicast pipelines. The broadcast portfolio spans four core linear networks—MAX Sport 1, MAX Sport 2, MAX Sport 3, and MAX Sport 4—supplemented by digital event pop-up feeds on the maxsport.live portal during concurrent match windows. Its live sports rights portfolio is among the most extensive in the Balkans, broadcasting UEFA Champions League football, Serie A, LaLiga, Eredivisie, EuroLeague basketball, NHL, UFC, MotoGP, NASCAR, WRC, and complete season-long coverage of ATP Tour Masters 1000 and 500 tennis tournaments.
Video transmission outputs up to 1080p high definition operating at 50 frames per second with stereo 2.0 audio tracks and localized Bulgarian commentary panels. Across connected operator environments (A1 Xplore TV, Vivacom EON, and Yettel TV), subscribers receive an automated 7-day backward electronic program guide catch-up buffer alongside in-player live time-shifting and cloud DVR capabilities. The standalone direct-to-consumer streaming portal at maxsport.live permits cord-cutters to subscribe without fixed broadband contracts, offering flexible monthly billing and single-event pay-per-view access. App transmission enforces a strict cap of 1 active digital stream per standalone OTT account, while IPTV operator profiles authorize up to 2 concurrent screens within the home network. Streaming access is geo-fenced to Bulgaria via IP address verification, with cross-border playback enabled across European Union member states for verified domestic residents.
