Expert Review & Verdict

The Verdict
Our Verdict: The Longhorn Network operates as a free, direct-to-consumer digital streaming service following the retirement of its 24/7 linear cable channel during the University of Texas transition to the SEC. Powered by Endeavor Streaming and Learfield, the platform functions primarily as an athletic archive, providing live coaches' shows, press conferences, and classic game replays across all 21 Longhorns varsity programs in 1080p Full HD. However, all live regular-season football and basketball telecasts have migrated entirely to SEC Network and ABC/ESPN, leaving this application as a zero-cost supplemental archival hub rather than a destination for live game telecasts.

In-Depth Platform Analysis & Coverage
LHN operates as the official digital media application for University of Texas Athletics, developed in operational partnership with Learfield and streaming infrastructure provider Endeavor Streaming. Relaunched as a free direct-to-consumer digital platform following the closure of the legacy ESPN-operated linear cable network, the service delivers video-on-demand assets and select live studio programming via adaptive bitrate HLS transmission. Content encompasses live coaches' shows, weekly press conferences, live game audio simulcasts, second-screen statistical telemetry, original documentary series, and an expansive video-on-demand vault of classic Texas Longhorns football, basketball, and baseball victories from the Big 12 and Southwest Conference eras.
Video transmission outputs up to 1080p high definition operating at 60 frames per second with stereo 2.0 audio tracks across connected TV platforms, mobile clients, and web browsers. Because premium live athletic broadcasting rights transferred to ESPN, ABC, and SEC Network under the conference television contract, the platform does not carry live regular-season football or men's basketball contests. Live feeds do not feature interactive cloud DVR recording tools, hosting instead an on-demand video archive of game replays, Olympic sport highlights, and university commencement ceremonies. Digital app transmission does not impose paid subscription paywalls or cable provider authentication requirements, operating with unrestricted concurrent display sessions across domestic and global IP networks.

What to Consider (Cons)

- • Premium live game broadcasts are partitioned exclusively to SEC Network and ESPN platforms

- • Serves strictly as an athletic archive and supplemental studio portal rather than a live game streamer
