Expert Review & Verdict
Stream2Watch Sports Editorial Desk • Audited October 2026
The Verdict
Our Verdict: Chess24 no longer functions as an independent digital broadcast network or standalone video-on-demand service, having been fully absorbed into Chess.com's live event and instructional ecosystem. While legacy video courses migrated to Chessable and live grandmaster tournament telecasts now anchor Chess.com Events and YouTube, former subscribers must navigate unified Chess.com Diamond or Platinum tiers to access engine analysis and masterclass content.

In-Depth Platform Analysis & Coverage
Founded by Grandmaster Jan Gustafsson and Enrique Guzman before joining Magnus Carlsen's Play Magnus Group, Chess24 served for a decade as the premier digital telecast platform for high-performance competitive chess. Following Chess.com's corporate acquisition, the standalone Chess24 website, mobile apps, and dedicated server infrastructure were officially discontinued, migrating their assets into the centralized Chess.com platform. The specialized Grandmaster instructional video catalog—including comprehensive opening repertoires and endgame masterclasses—was integrated into Chessable's interactive MoveTrainer format, while live multi-camera tournament telecasts of the Champions Chess Tour, Freestyle Chess GOAT Challenge, and FIDE World Championship relocated under the Chess.com Events umbrella.
From a technical perspective, live tournament transmissions output via YouTube, Twitch, and web browsers in 1080p high definition operating at 60 frames per second with multi-lingual audio commentary. Because the service has ceased operating as an independent over-the-top application, users no longer maintain native standalone Chess24 accounts or bespoke digital DVR buffers; instead, live event broadcasts, synchronized Stockfish cloud engine evaluations, and complete round VOD archives are hosted within Chess.com and its affiliated digital channels. Subscription access to comprehensive game reviews, coach explanations, and instructional material requires standard Chess.com Gold, Platinum, or Diamond tiers, permitting single-user concurrent account sessions with cross-device syncing across iOS, Android, and desktop browsers.
