Sekhukhune United, Stellenbosch FC, SuperSport United, and Cape Town City are regular contenders for continental qualification spots.
Format
The league has 16 teams. Each plays each other twice in the regular season. The champion qualifies for the CAF Champions League. The second and third-place teams go into the CAF Confederation Cup. The bottom two teams are relegated to the National First Division.
Viewership

In South Africa, SuperSport is the primary broadcaster for the PSL. They show every match live on their dedicated channels. DStv Stream is the streaming home for all SuperSport content. The SABC broadcasts select matches on SABC 1 and SABC 2, but only on television. A DStv subscription is required for full coverage of all matches.
Important 2026 update: Showmax shutdown
Showmax is shutting down permanently on April 30, 2026, and will stop taking new subscribers on March 31, 2026 . Showmax Pro has already been discontinued. All Showmax content, including Showmax Originals, is being moved to DStv Stream. There is no standalone Showmax service available for the remainder of the 2025-26 PSL season.
International streaming options
For fans outside South Africa, SuperSport is the official broadcaster across sub-Saharan Africa through DStv packages. There is currently no standalone international streaming service for the PSL. International fans may need to use a VPN to access DStv Stream or check with local sports broadcasters in their region.
