About Azerbaijani Premier League
The Azerbaijani Premier League is the top professional soccer league in Azerbaijan. It's a 10-team competition that runs from August through May. The league is in the final stretch, with teams fighting for European spots and trying to avoid relegation.
Top teams
Qarabag FK is the dominant force in Azerbaijani soccer. They've won the league almost every year since 2014. The club has regular group stage runs in European competitions, which brings in money and raises the profile of the league. Neftchi Baku is the traditional powerhouse from the capital, but they've struggled to keep up with Qarabag in recent years. Zira FK and Sabah FC are the main challengers, backed by serious investment. The rest of the league is fighting to stay up.
European competition
Qarabag is the reason the league gets any European attention. They've made the Champions League group stage in the past and are regulars in the Europa League. Those games bring in millions of dollars and boost the country's UEFA coefficient. The second-place team gets a shot at European qualification too, but Qarabag carries the flag for Azerbaijan most years.
Viewership
The Azerbaijani league pulls between 3 and 4 million viewers annually. Most of that comes from local audiences. Qarabag's European matches draw the biggest numbers, sometimes topping 500,000 viewers in Azerbaijan alone. Outside the country, interest is minimal — mostly expats and hardcore soccer fans tracking the UEFA coefficient race.
TV options in Azerbaijan
CBC Sport is the exclusive broadcaster for the Premier League in Azerbaijan. They show every match live. There's no free-to-air TV coverage for the regular season. If you're in Azerbaijan and want to watch, you need cable or the CBC Sport streaming app.
Streaming options in the US and Worldwide
For international fans, the CBC Sport YouTube channel streams matches live. Qarabag also streams their home games on their own YouTube channel. This is the best way to watch if you're outside Azerbaijan. No subscription needed. Just go to YouTube and look for the live stream. Some matches are region-locked, but most are available globally. The quality isn't always great, but it's free.
Current season
The 2025-26 Azerbaijani Premier League season kicked off in August 2025. The regular season runs through May. Qarabag is sitting at the top of the table, as usual. Neftchi Baku and Zira are fighting for second place and the European spots that come with it. The relegation battle is tight at the bottom, with three teams separated by just a few points. The season wraps up in late May.
