About English Womens Super League
The Women's Super League is the top professional women's soccer league in England. It's a 12-team competition that runs from September through May. The league has grown rapidly in recent years, with more investment, better players, and bigger audiences. The season is in the final stretch, with the title race and relegation battle reaching their peak.
Top teams
Chelsea Women have dominated the WSL in recent years, winning multiple titles under Emma Hayes and now under new management. Arsenal Women are the other heavyweight — they've won the most titles overall. Manchester City Women, Manchester United Women, and Liverpool Women are regular contenders. The league has a clear top tier, but clubs like Aston Villa, Brighton, and Leicester are closing the gap. The 2025-26 season is the first under a new five-year broadcast deal, which has brought more exposure and revenue to the league.
Viewership
The WSL pulls between 40 and 50 million viewers globally each season. The numbers have surged following the success of the England national team in recent tournaments. The North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham draws the biggest audience. The league also has a strong following in the US, Canada, and Europe. The new broadcast deal has expanded coverage significantly, making the league more accessible than ever.
Streaming options in the UK
Sky Sports and NOW are the primary broadcasters, showing 118 matches, with 78 exclusive. BBC Sport and BBC iPlayer show 21 matches, including 14 exclusive to BBC platforms. The WSL YouTube channel streams 34 matches non-exclusively.
