Chilean Primera División Overview & Format

The Chilean Primera División, officially known as the Campeonato Nacional or Liga de Primera, is the apex of professional men's football in Chile. The competition features 16 elite clubs competing in a rigorous, single calendar-year tournament consisting of a 30-match double round-robin regular season. The team accumulating the most points over the campaign is crowned the national champion. The stakes are absolute at both ends of the table: the top-finishing clubs secure coveted berths in CONMEBOL’s premier continental tournaments, the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana, while the bottom-placed teams face automatic relegation to the Primera B, ensuring relentless intensity and strategic depth from the first matchday to the last.
