About AFLE
The American Football League Europe (AFLE), also known as The League Europe, is a professional cross-border American football competition. Founded in late 2025, it launched its inaugural season in 2026 as a direct evolution of the European football landscape, bringing together established franchises and new markets to create a centralized, high-level professional circuit.
Top teams
The inaugural eight-team lineup features a mix of proven European football institutions and ambitious new franchises. The Vienna Vikings and Wrocław Panthers entered the league with established fanbases and championship pedigree. Traditional powerhouses like Rhein Fire and the Danube Dragons bring deep organizational resources and experienced rosters. Meanwhile, newer entries like the Alpine Rams and Firenze Red Lions are building aggressive, high-tempo programs designed to disrupt the standings and challenge the established order from day one.
Format
The competition features eight teams competing in a 14-week regular season schedule. At the conclusion of the regular season, the top four teams advance to a single-elimination playoff bracket. This knockout phase culminates in the AFLE Gold Bowl, the league's championship game. The inaugural Gold Bowl is scheduled for September 6, 2026, at the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena in Duisburg, Germany, serving as a winner-takes-all finale to the season.
Viewership
American football maintains a dedicated, growing following across Europe, and AFLE is designed to consolidate that audience under one professional banner. The league has secured broadcast partnerships with major regional free-to-air networks, such as Sport1 in the DACH region, ensuring broad accessibility. Additionally, the league operates its own centralized digital streaming platform, AFLE+, which broadcasts every regular-season game, replay, and playoff matchup globally, allowing fans to follow the season without navigating fragmented local broadcast restrictions.
